چکیده

An experimentally supported model of cortical background activity is used to investigate the role of such activity in neural gain control. The model demonstrates the feasibility of a scheme for contrast enhancement where by the overall intensity of an input pattern adjusts the dynamic range of a neuron such that it remains sensitive to contrast over a wide range of overall intensities. keywords: contrast enhancement, gain, cortical background activity.

Functional mapping of rat barrel activation following whisker stimulation using activity-induced manganese-dependent contrast.

BACKGROUND Cortical whisker barrels in the primary somatosensory cortex are a well-known example of brain function in rodents. The well-defined relationship between barrels and whiskers makes this system a unique model to study neuronal function and plasticity. In this study, we sought to establish a feasible working protocol of applying manganese-enhanced MRI (MEMRI) to map the cortical barrel...

A Quantitative Investigation on the Effect of Edge Enhancement for Improving Visual Acuity at Different Levels of Contrast

Background: The major limitation in human vision is refractive error. Auxiliary equipment and methods for these people are not always available. In addition, limited range of accommodation in adult people when switching from a far point to a near point is not simply possible. In this paper, we are looking for solutions to use the facilities of digital image processing and displaying to improve ...

Multi-contrast scar CINE: sparsely sampled real-time inversion-recovery bSSFP CINE combined with iterative reconstruction and motion propagation

Background A new fast and robust technique combing CINE imaging with a retrospectively adjustable delayed-enhancement (DE) contrast in a short breath-hold of 4 seconds was recently introduced [1]. As a benefit of this technique, DE images can be reconstructed as a CINE series for any TI contrast, which in turn could be beneficial in the evaluation of CMR images and allow for improved diagnostic...

DIFFUSE CONTRAST ENHANCEMENT ON MR IMAGES IN BRAIN INFARCTION: \"PSEUDOTUMOR SIGN\"

The purpose of this study was to describe the pattern of diffuse enhancement seen on contrast-enhanced MR images in patients with subacute infarction. A retrospective study of 104 patients with the diagnosis of stroke who had undergone contrast-enhanced MR scanning within2 weeks of the inciting neurological event revealed 66 patients who demonstrated different patterns of contrast-enhanceme...

Cortical and Subcortical Coordination of Visual Spatial Attention Revealed by Simultaneous EEG-fMRI Recording.

Visual spatial attention has been studied in humans with both electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) individually. However, due to the intrinsic limitations of each of these methods used alone, our understanding of the systems-level mechanisms underlying attentional control remains limited. Here, we examined trial-to-trial covariations of concurrently reco...
